About Some Songs Considered

About Me (or, “Who Are You?”)

Some Songs Considered is a daily music blog written by me, Brian Wall.  I’ve written about music on and off since high school, including my college newspaper, various personal and group blogs, and now at Some Songs Considered.  As a day job, I teach English literature and writing in a public high school, often scratching out Some Songs Considered posts in between correcting papers and planning lessons.

In addition to listening to and writing about music, I enjoy playing music as well.  I’ve played the drums since the fifth grade (although my drums sit stacked up currently), taught myself how to play “campfire” guitar (if it has open chords, I can play it), “hunt and peck” piano, and basic mallet percussion.  Additionally, I enjoy reading (mostly modern fiction, music criticism, and sports history) even though I rarely find the time, following sports (mainly baseball and basketball with the occasional football game thrown in), and spending time with creative and hilarious people that inspire me.

You can contact me on Twitter (@somesongs), e-mail (somesongsconsidered-AT-gmail.com), or through the blog’s comments.  I will do my best to reply to every tweet, e-mail, comment, and singing telegram, but if something slips past me please let me know!

What is SSC? (or, “Arbitrary Guidelines”)

Some Songs Considered is a blog dedicated to looking at specific songs.  It’s an opportunity for me to write about songs that I’ve loved and try to explore why I love these songs.  I’m also interested in creating a discussion about these songs and always love hearing what other people have to think.

It’s my goal to write about a song every day for 2009 and I will do my best to keep that up.  If I miss a day here and there, please be kind as I probably have a good reason for it.  Also, I am going to try to write about as many different bands and artists as possible, but I might change my mind at some point.

A Note about the Songs (or, “The Disclaimer”)

The embedded songs in each post are there so that you can hear the songs and know what I’m writing about.  It’s difficult to talk about specific parts in these songs without hearing them.

It’s also my intention to promote the bands and artists featured here, which is why I’ve included links at the bottom of every post to resources to learn about these bands and places to buy their music digitally.  Additionally, I have the following guidelines for these posts.

  • These songs will not be available for download through my site and I will not link to downloads unless they are from official artist or record label pages.
  • I will not respond to any requests to e-mail songs or post links to downloads.  Additionally, I will delete any comments that ask for or provide these links.  I’m sorry.
  • I will never post anything from an unsolicited leak and will delete any requests and links in search of these.
  • I will never profit from your songs.  Please see my note below about my no-ads/affiliates policy.

If you are (or represent) an artist, record label, or taper and you would like me to remove an audio post, I will be more than happy to do so immediately.  Please e-mail me at somesongsconsidered-AT-gmail.com.

Submitting Material (or, “I wish I could help”)

First, I’m flattered if you want me to listen to or write about your band.  That being said, I’m inundated with music at the time being and am focused on writing about songs that I’ve lived with for a while.  For the time being, I will not be writing about any new music.  You are still free to e-mail me with a link to your band’s music and I will keep it on file just in case I change my mind for the future, but Please be advised that I will not be able to write about your band.

Advertising (or, “No thanks”)

I’m writing Some Songs Considered out of a love of music and a desire to write every day.  I have no interest in running any advertisements on my blog or participating in any affiliate programs.  I make absolutely no money on any purchases made through links posted on my site and have no interest in changing that.  Again, I’m flattered if you want to advertise here, but I’m not looking to turn a profit on my hobby.
